# Sublimation vs Embroidery for Sportswear

> Compare printed all-over artwork with stitched logos, and learn which fabric, design and sample questions to ask for a sportswear quote.

Decoration should be chosen with the garment and artwork in mind. A full-shirt pattern and a small chest crest create different requirements; discuss the available method for each product before approving a design.

## When to discuss sublimation

Dye sublimation uses heat to transfer a printed design to a suitable material. Polyester and polyester-rich fabrics are common choices; the exact fabric and base colour matter to the result.

This method is worth discussing for gradients, detailed patterns and artwork that covers large parts of a team garment. Ask how the panels will be cut and joined so important details do not fall awkwardly on a seam.

## When to discuss embroidery

Embroidery creates the design with stitches. For a small crest or wordmark, discuss the proposed dimensions, stitch density and backing with the supplier, then check a sample on the actual garment fabric.

Lightweight or stretchy sportswear needs particular care: dense embroidery can be difficult for a fabric with little structural support. The size and complexity of the mark may need to change rather than simply copying the artwork unchanged.

## Compare the decisions side by side

| Question | Sublimation discussion | Embroidery discussion |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Artwork coverage | Full panels, patterns and colour gradients | Dimensions and detail of the stitched mark |
| Fabric check | Composition and suitability for heat transfer | Stability, backing and response to stitching |
| Sample review | Colour, panel alignment and seam placement | Legibility, puckering and feel behind the design |
| Quote details | Print setup and garment specification | Digitising, design size and stitch requirements |

## Approve the finished result

A logo file alone does not define a finished garment. Confirm the actual size, placement, colours and method in the quotation. Request a sample or proof appropriate to the project and retain the approved version for future orders.

Method availability is confirmed per product by Realm Sports. Do not assume every catalog reference supports every decoration technique.
